I am a 23-year old undergraduate student from Helsinki, Finland. I am interested in social issues, information technology in general and nature. I study at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki.
My first 13 years of studies took place at the French-Finnish school of Helsinki. I spent one year as an exchange student at Glenelg High School in Howard County, Maryland.
I did half a year of compulsory military service in the Finnish Navy as a message man for the network of coastal cannons.
I currently study at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Helsinki. I started my studies in january of 2004.
My first job was in a new media company called Nettipaja sometime ago in the dotcom era. I continued working in the new media business at Aqima Interactive, where my job was to create web sites and later, an intra/extranet project for a client. Later this client, Personal Netart Oy hired me to develop intra/extranet systems. I have spent two summers and one spring working at the Employer's confederation of service industries. At the moment I am a full-time student.
My dad took me to my first scout troop meeting when I was 8 years old. I have since enjoyed scouting as my favorite hobby.
I can't remember much of my time as a cub, but I remember the best times were as a scout. The best times while scouting have been the camps. I regret I haven't got enough free time to take part in all the scouting events I am invited to.
I became a patrol leader when I was 13 years old. After my exchange student year I became a cub leader first for a year all by myself and then for another year with Saara Peltonen. After my military service I took over another patrol while also acting as the assistant troop leader. I also take care of managing our members.
I have taken part in scouting security at the Kerkkä district camp, at the Tarus Finnjamboree and the Capital area district's parade of 2004.
Scouting is a hobby which requires a lot, but can also be very rewarding. A simple smile or a thank you
are easy ways to say thanks. I have also been given the bronze medal of the Capital area district.
I have been hooked on computers ever since I first visited my school's computer classroom. I spent countless of hours playing games after school. Later on, I have quit most of the game playing. Still, you can find me playing Microsoft's Flight Simulator or the series of Command & Conquer from Westwood from time to time.
The first time I used the Internet was at school in 1994. The operating system was naturally Windows 3.1 and the browser was a Netscape version 2. The fun began when the browser was upgraded to version 3 and when the web filled with frames and GIF-animations. I have deeply regreted using those techniques afterwards. Nowadays I am a spokesman for standard HTML code and a user-friendly web.
I created my first homepage in the year 1995 when we got an Internet connection at the house. I have developed my skills since and nowadays I maintain several web sites. My Internet connection at home has developed from a Eunet 28,000 bps modem line to an ADSL connection.
I go see movies frequently. I also watch movies at home in my home theater. I have an amplifier with 6 speakers and a 32-inch wide angle 100Hz Sony television.
Sometimes I enjoy cooking. My speciality is spagetti with a pan made of minced meat, onions, garlic, mushrooms and tomato sauce.
Since I moved in my own place, I have been eager to rearrange my furnitures over and over again. I am often short of money with this hobby.
I also try to go swimming, scuba diving and golfing.
I read frequently Wired magazine. I am very poor at remembering names. I can't sleep if I am hungry. I get symptoms if I stay away from the wheel for a long period of time. I generally like the food they serve on airplanes. I don't believe in referendums other than elections. I am a perfectionist. I don't know how to say no.
I have taken pictures with digital cameras since 1999. I have collected what I believe are the best shots to be exposed to the public. Most of the pictures are from trips, but also from closer to home. All pictures are also available in full original size.
